A new boating permit will raise money to fight invasive aquatic species in Oregon.
All boaters must now pay an extra $5 for the Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit when registering their craft. The permit is required for all floating recreational craft 10 feet or longer, including motor boats, rowboats, kayaks and canoes.
The money raised from selling the permits will go toward boat inspection teams and decontamination equipment. The goal is to prevent dangerous exotic species from being brought into Oregon waters.
